mouldCAM has recently won a tender to produce the moulds for a new sculpture by acclaimed sculptor James Angus.
“Ellipsoidal Freeway Sculpture” has been commissioned as one of four major works for ConnectEast’s multi-million dollar collection of public artworks for the new EastLink freeway in Melbourne.
The sculpture, of painted fibreglass and steel framework, will comprise 24 modular ellipsoids from 1 to 3 metres in diameter. In final form, it will be 36 metres long, 5 metres high and 6 metres wide.
James Angus says of mouldCAM, ”No one in the country can do what mouldCAM is doing on the scale in which they’re doing it. I like them because they’re fearless.”
He continued, “A great advantage for me is that they offer a well integrated production, it’s a one stop shop from design, engineering, machining, and cutting to painting. This means efficiency and quality control for my work.”
”I also work in the United States and I haven’t found a fabricator there to equal them. They are pretty much ahead of the game,” he concluded.
Toby Whitfield said today, ”This is the third interesting and technically difficult sculpture of James’ we’ve been asked to work on. To help create a major work for the prestigious Eastlink Public Art Collection is also a great honour. We love the challenge, and enjoy the outcome.”
